About the Author

Michael Sweet leads development of the game scoring curriculum at Berklee College of Music. Over two decades, he has been audio director on more than one hundred video games including the Xbox 360 logo and award-winning video games from Cartoon Network, Sesame Workshop, Shockwave, RealArcade, Lego, and Microsoft. He has won the Independent Games Festival’s Best Audio Award and the BDA Promax Gold Award for Best Sound Design, and has been nominated for four Game Audio Network Guild (GANG) awards.

This was a really great book that I return to often as a reference. It goes beyond most books on the subject in that it offers practical advice for contract negotiations, freelancing, networking, and many other aspects of the industry that newcomers may not know about. I also very much enjoyed the primer to sound synthesis. It was concise, well written, and dead on.

The books starts a little slowly and repetitively but gains momentum. It has a strong US-centricity limiting its application elsewhere, but there are some fascinating interviews with Japanese composers interspersed throughout the text. The book does not confine itself to technique but also examines the broader industry and how the composer interacts with it, with lots of handy tips. Some more diagrams and screenshots would have added to the text.

One of the best textbooks I've ever used. This has literally been the one and only textbook i've actually read through completely throughout all of my academic career (which is close to 10 years..but that is another story). Sweet's writing is very clear, organized, and easy to follow. He provides amazing examples and industry standards that were completely new for me. The book goes over very useful composing tips and techniques specific for video game music and I found the tips pertaining to the business and contract sides are amazing. If you are at all interested in composing for video games, BUY THIS BOOK NOW!

The issues explored in these papers include: (1) formulations of relativity theories in which the speed of light is not a universal constant but which are consistent with the four-dimensional symmetry of the Lorentz and Poincare groups and with experimental results, (2) analyses and discussions by Reichenbach concerning the concepts of simultaneity and physical time from a philosophical point of view, and (3) results achieved by the union of the relativity and quantum theories, marking the beginnings of quantum electrodynamics and relativistic quantum mechanics.Ten of the fundamental experiments testing special relativity are also discussed, showing that they actually support a four-dimensional spacetime based on broad Lorentz and Poincare invariance which is more general than and includes the special theory of relativity. The generalization of the concepts of simultaneity, physical time and the nature of the speed of light within a four-dimensional spacetime framework leads to the conclusion that the symmetries embodied by the special theory of relativity can be realized using only a single postulate - the principle of relativity for physical laws.
